Divya Kumar

Divya Kumar, ScM, CLC, CPD holds a Masters in Public Health and is certified as a postpartum doula and lactation counselor. Her work connects postpartum support with public health by addressing unmet needs in the structure and delivery of perinatal support services. In 2013, she helped create a DPH funded postpartum depression prevention pilot program in four community health centers in Massachusetts. She currently provides comprehensive perinatal support for women and families at Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center, one of the four pilot sites.

 

Additionally, Divya facilitates support groups for new parents and conducts workshops about the transition to parenthood. In 2015, she co-founded the Every Mother Project, an organization that provides training and support for women’s health professionals around screening for and addressing perinatal emotional complications with clients. In 2017, she co-founded the Perinatal Mental Health Alliance for Women of Color, which is now a part of Postpartum Support International. In addition, she recently began a Masters in Social Work program. A writer and a truth-teller, Divya tells it like it is and brings a fresh voice, compassion, and humor to her work with new families. She lives in Jamaica Plain with her husband and two children.
